Just a note.
In looking up the episode I mentioned in my last post, I came across the following discussion thread on mormonmatters.com: http://mormonmatters.org/2008/11/20/garments-on-law-order/
I had to add my two cents (more like a dime's worth, really) at the end. Oh, and if you're clicking to this post from that discussion thread, HI MORMON FRIENDS!! Don't read any more of my posts because there are naughty words and librul ideas.
Cervical cancer...
I was watching Law and Order, the new season where the Lieutenant finds out she has cancer. She goes into chemotherapy with little fanfare. I didn't know what kind of cancer it was until I saw this particular episode, though, where her doctor gives her the news. The exchange culminated in the doctor telling the patient, "You have HPV. It's the virus that causes cervical cancer."
Okay, whoa, whoa. THE virus that CAUSES cervical cancer. That, to me, implies that there's only one cause for this particular form of cancer, and that's a sexually transmitted virus.
New... site....
So my spousal unit, Wayne, switched my site from Joomla to Drupal. (There was a lengthy discussion over whether or not he had, as he believed, obtained my consent to do this.) With this change came tag clouds, which I TOTALLY don't get. What the hell is a tag cloud? Srsly? And apparently he tagged my craigslist post as "sexual deviance" and "torture", but not "polygamy." Weird!
Adventures in Craigslist!
I just posted the following ad to Craigslist. I'm curious to see how many and what variety of responses such a post will generate. Here's the text:
"Did you know that there are more men than women in Utah? According to the 2008 US census, there are more than 27 million people in Utah. Of those, only 49.5% are women. That's more than 13,000 men with no female partner! Now, it's possible some of them are gay, but some of those women are gay, too, so one way or another, there's a lot of lonely men out there.
Certification of Live Birth
Just an aside comment here. A few weeks ago I went to pick up my 5-year-old son's birth certificate for kindergarten. I also had to get his shot records and proof of residency. I then had to fill out some paperwork and turn it all in. As I was picking up his birth certificate, I noticed that it said "Certification of Live Birth" at the top. I burst into laughter, and then said to the cashier, "I hope this''ll be good enough in 40 years if he runs for President."
President Obama's Speech to Schools
Yesterday my 10-year-old stepdaughter called me from school to ask permission to "watch Mr. Barack Obama's speech." I responded, somewhat startled, "Of course you can! Why wouldn't you?" She replied that her teacher was just asking students to call and ask their parents if it was okay.
OHNOES THE SKY IS FALLING!
A while ago, a friend sent me a link to this site.
The subject of the email, which contained no other text, was simply "Please sign this to protect our healthcare!"
More Health Care Reform
These were some comments I posted on an article for the Deseret News addressing healthcare reform:
A healthy society depends on healthy citizens. It shames us all when we, the wealthiest country in the world, allow any of our citizens to go without basic necessities, like food, shelter, clothing, and yes - healthcare. It's shameful when any of us are so greedy that we fail to concern ourselves with not just our fellow countrymen.
Health Care Reform
Here's the breakdown of this entire argument: Capitalism only works when mediated by a somewhat socialistic government.
